- Adjust both weight selector dials to “1” and set the handset on its end.
- Remove the fixed weight plate. Refer to replacing fixed weight plates.
- Remove side pin located underneath jack-shaft
- Pull the jackshaft downward, and try to keep the upper gear engaged with the lower shaft gear – this will preserve the clocking of the system.
- Once the jackshaft is removed, roll the lower gear to the side, just enough to pull the selector shaft out.
NOTE: If done carefully, once the selector shaft is replaced and pushed all the way in (to the “1″ position) you can roll the gear back into perfect mesh with the selector shaft. Both jack shaft gears should then have the keyway aligned to insert the jack shaft and replace the side pin. - Get the new selector shaft and drop all the way into position.
- Carefully roll the lower gear back into mesh with the selector shaft.
- You will notice there is a keyway on the jackshaft, which aligns with the key interlock on the lower gear. Replace the jackshaft while slightly rotating to find the alignment.
- Once aligned push the jackshaft all the way upward until it aligns with upper gear. Push all the way through and replace the side pin.
- Replace the fixed weight plate.
- Check to ensure the selector shaft is slightly recessed into the fixed weight plate and the weight selector dials are set to “1″.
NOTE: Always depress the weight selector dial to lock the weight selection prior to lifting/moving.
NOTE:If the “1” on the decal does not align with the “1” position on the handset it is recommended to peel decal off and carefully line up with the mark and reapply the decal.

- Start by removing all selectable weight plates from the handset, so that only the fixed weight plate remains.
- Place the handset on its end.
- Remove the (4) screws that fasten the fixed weight plate to the housing.
NOTE: upper screws and lower screws are different lengths.
Lift the weight plate to remove from handset housing. - Replace with your new fixed weight plate, and re-insert screws.
NOTE: short screws are on bottom, longer screws on top.
- Begin turning the screw counter clockwise until a subtle click is felt – this will align the self-threading screw with the existing threads. Then, rotate the screw clockwise and turn until snug. Repeat with all (4) screws.

MX DUMBBELLS Troubleshooting
The MX weight selector dial should turn smoothly, allowing seamless weight transition. If you are finding the dial won’t turn or is stiff, follow these steps:
- Check to ensure you have released the weight selector dial fully by pressing the release button. If not fully released the locking mechanism could be hindering the dial from turning.
- Adjust cradle end plate.
- Check to see if stand is on a firm, level surface.
- Shuffle the weight plates around.
For further assistance, download the Dumbbell Adjustment Guide.
If you are finding that an extra weight plate is lifting and becoming dislodged from the remaining weight stack when the handset is lifted then follow these steps:
- Be sure to lift the dumbbell vertically when removing it from the cradle. If the dumbbell is pulled out at an angle, it may drag against un-selected weight plates.
- If the problem still occurs, it’s likely the cradle end plate is too tight. Loosen the four bolts (3) beneath the cradle at one end. The four holes are slotted for the purpose of adjusting the cradle length.
- With the cradle end loose, place the fully loaded dumbbell in and out of the cradle several times. It will self-adjust to the proper setting. Tighten the four bolts. To test, select 35 lbs and lift the dumbbell out quickly and see if the rest of the plates remain in place without “sticking”.
- Check the surfaces between weight plates to make sure they are clean and free of debris.
- The weight plates should slide together easily with little resistance.
TIP: Also check the tabs on the weight plates to ensure they are not bent or broken from accidental misuse. If so, replace any damaged weight plates.
For further assistance, download the Dumbbell Adjustment Guide.
- Adjust the weight selector dials to your desired weight. Be sure to lock the setting each time by fully depressing the weight selector dial until it locks into its recessed position. Press the release button located to the side of the handset, to allow the weight selector dial to pop up for further weight selection.
TIP: Always depress the weight selector dial to lock the weight selection prior to lifting / moving.
- Slightly raise the handset after each of your weight selections to ensure the intended number of weight plates lifts with the handset. The handset and selected plates should lift smoothly with all unselected plates remaining in the cradle.
- If unselected plates are lifting with the handset, read this article.
